Farmers organise march against govt

Farmers in the district today organised a symbolic funeral procession of state government to highlight their woes.

The procession was flagged off from Azad maidan under ZP member and president of Lok Jagruti Manch, Devanand Pawar and former ZP chairman Rahul Thakre.

The procession marched on the residence of Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Rathod, but was stopped by police.

Some of the protesters tonsured their heads.

Police averted a clash between the farmers and Shiv Sainiks who had gathered at Rathod's place.

"Guardian Minister Sanjay Rathod is the representative of government. He has forgotten the assurance he had given to agriculturists who are in distress," Pawar said.
 

He alleged that Rathod was responsible for exclusion of eight out of 16 tehsils from the annual anewari (value of crop) survey in district.

The aanewari at less than 50 paise is a pre-condition to declare the area drought-affected.
