Father and son drown in Mahanadi

A father-son duo from Andhra Pradesh went missing and feared drowned while bathing in River Mahanadi here under Jagatpur police station today, police said.

Despite a rescue operation made by the police and fire brigade personnel for over four hours, no trace of the duo was found till late evening, sources said.

Police said K Punala Rao (45), a lorry driver and his son P Gangajalam (19) of Medapeta area arrived here during noon carrying a truck-load of wheat to a Jagatpur-based flour mill.

"Unable to bear the scorching heat of the day, the duo went to take bath in the Balisahi ghat of the river," police said.
 

Quoting eye witnesses, police further said first the father went in the water and seeing him drowning, his son plunged in to save him but soon both went missing.
