Father-daughter duo die in chemical explosion

Owner of a door manufacturing unit and his two-and-a-half year old daughter were killed in a chemical explosion at their workshop-cum-home in Krushi Sarathi locality here this morning, police said.

"The chemical used in manufacturing the fiber doors and windows was stocked in a can, which suddenly exploded that killed 34-year-old Shaikh Shakeel Aziz and his daughter Alia," Assistant Superintendent of Police Pronoy Ashok said.

Samples of the chemical have been collected and sent for laboratory analysis, he added.

Shakeel's wife survived in the incident as she was working in the kitchen, police said adding that further investigation was on.
