Five-year-old boy drowns in tennis court pit

A five-year-old boy drowned in a water pit located on the premises of a tennis court in Gachibowli here, the police said today.

The incident occurred last evening when the boy, identified as K Karthik, was playing along with some other children with a ball near the tennis court premises.

"After the ball fell inside the court premises, Karthik entered the area and apparently found that the ball had fallen in a water pit. He entered the pit to take out the ball, but drowned," a Gachibowli police station official said.

No one was present on the premises at the time of the incident, the official said, adding they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC.
