Flood alert sounded on Bhavani River as dam brims over

A flood alert has been sounded in the villages on banks of Bhavani river at Mettupalayam as the district administration decided to release the surplus water from Pilloor dam which has reached its full level of 100 feet.

The surplus water from the dam will be released around 4 PM today and the people living on the banks of the river are requested to move to safer places, official sources said.

Rains started lashing the district and nearby Nilgiris district since last night, resulting in filling of almost all the dams, they said.
