Foreign Bribery Bill to be taken up in next Cabinet meeting

Changes in a Bill aimed at criminalising foreign bribery were scheduled to be considered by the Union Cabinet here today but it could not be taken up, official sources said.

Amendments in the Prevention of Bribery of Foreign Public Officials and Officials of Public International Organisations Bill, 2011, were scheduled to be considered for decision by the Cabinet today.

The Bill could not come up for discussion, the sources said, adding, it is likely to come up for discussion during next Cabinet meeting.

The Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on March 25, 2011, and referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee in April the same year. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice had given its report on March 29 last year.
