Four killed in jeep-truck collision

Four persons including two women were killed and five others injured when their jeep collided head-on with a mini truck in Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district, police said today.

The incident took place last night near Bijabhat village under Bemetara police station limits, when the victims were returning after a marriage ceremony, a local police official told PTI.

As per preliminary information, members of one Soni family from Bemetara had gone to Amora village (on Bemetara-Berla road) in their jeep for attending a marriage ceremony.

On their way back, when the jeep reached Bijabhat, around 100 kms away from Raipur, it collided head-on with the mini truck coming from the opposite direction, resulting in the death of four persons on the spot, he said.
 

The deceased were identified as Lakhan Soni (60), Sanjana Soni (42), Ahilya Soni (60) and the jeep driver Chandrabhan (30), the official said.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the dead bodies and five injured to a nearby hospital.

A case has been registered in this connection, police said adding efforts are on to trace the truck driver who escaped from the spot after the mishap.
