Four members of a family were killed and one was injured in a road accident when a truck rammed into a vehicle from behind on Kajora Road near Andal, the police said today.
The incident happened at 11.45 pm on Friday when the family was returning home at Rana Pratap area in Durgapur after attending a marriage ceremony at Ghantipahar in Bankura district, a police officer said.
A loaded truck rammed into the vehicle from behind and the vehicle then collided with a trailer that was in front of it.
The vehicle was crushed as a result of the impact, the police officer said.
Four out of five members of the family died on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Milon Mukherjee, Bhakti Mukherjee, Konika Mukherjee and Soumen Mukherjee (a student of class VIII).
Jiban Mukherjee, the injured person was taken to DSP Hospital, the police said.
