Girl harassed by youths, ends life

A 17-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence after being harassed by local youths.

The Class XII student committed suicide by hanging herself with her 'dupatta' at her house here yesterday.

"It seems the girl was being harassed. She had written a suicide note 4-5 days ago...She was extremely troubled," a police officer said.

A family member of the girl said, "I checked her bag and saw there was a suicide note in which it was written that boys from the neighbouring Shukla family used to tease and threaten her while on her way to school. They used to threaten her that if she did not go out with them they would kidnap her."
 

The family member also alleged that they approached police but they did not act on it.

"The guilty will be penalised and if the in-charge of the police station is also guilty, then appropriate action will be taken against him," the officer said.
