A year after the formal inauguration of the Central Jail in Colvale, its women's block will be opened tomorrow on Goa Statehood day.
"The women's block in the prison would be inaugurated on May 30. This will help to ease the pressure on the Sada Sub Jail which is currently housing women inmates," Inspector General (Prison) Elvis Gomes told reporters here.
The Central Jail in Colvale in north Goa was inaugurated last year on Statehood Day by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.

The jail already houses inmates from erstwhile Aguada Central Jail, which is now being converted into a museum by the Tourism Department.
An industrial block at the central jail will also be opened tomorrow, Gomes said, adding, "The block will house all workshops training the inmates".
"This is the first ever kind of block in India where workshops for various skills like art and craft, tailoring, carpentry, paper making, candle making and others would be under one roof," the IG said.
