Gold worth Rs 28 lakh seized from air passenger

Customs officials seized 925 grams of gold worth Rs 28 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Riyadh here today.

The officials intercepted 40-year-old Jaffar Hussain Shaik on his arrival at Anna International terminal following a tip-off.

A search of his belongings revealed that he was carrying a 'decorative flower showpiece' which was unusually heavy, a customs release said, adding, the gold was found when it was dismantled.
