The Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Police have arrested a Gram Panchayat secretary in the district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Praveen Baghel said that Vinod Prajapati (44), secretary of the Panchayat of Mirzapur village, was arrested while accepting the money in his office yesterday.

Prajapati had demanded Rs 20,000 from Bharat Patel, a villager, who had applied for permission to construct a building on his land.

After Patel approached the Lokayukta Police, a trap was laid and the secretary was arrested while taking the first instalment of Rs 8,000, the DSP said.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further probe is on, he said.
