Gujarat government today said that it will pay wages due to 625 traffic regulation brigade (TRB) personnel by Thursday.

This submission came in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed in the High Court.

The government told the division bench of Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice V M Pancholi that it has deposited Rs 57 lakh in a government-managed traffic fund from where the money will be transferred to TRBs by Thursday.

The matter will again come up for hearing on Thursday.

The PIL, filed on Friday (last week) by lawyer K R Koshti, had sought a direction to the state home department and police departments to pay TRBs who are put on duty since January 1, 2016, after physical test and training.

They are yet to receive appointment letter or contract papers.

TRBs have been placed at different points in Ahmedabad to assist traffic police personnel. They have so far not been given any uniform and identity card and not been paid wages for two months despite working for 8 hours daily.

Koshti in his PIL had sought minimum wages to these guards. He also asked for uniform and I-card for them.
