In a jolt to BJP ahead of the local bodies polls, senior leader of south Gujarat Dolat Desai today resigned from the party protesting against his "insult" by the local leadership.

"I have resigned from primary membership of the party as I felt insulted," Desai, a five time former MLA from Valsad town, told reporters here.

"In the local bodies polls of Valsad district panchayat, I had suggested that party should give tickets to my three workers. The party agreed to it but at the time of distribution of tickets none of my supporters were included," Desai said.

"I was insulted in the party as they have not appreciated my dedication and contribution of 35 years for the party's rise in south Gujarat after which I have decided to give resignation even from primary membership of the party," the leader said.

"I have no complaints against the central leadership of the party but this is against the local leadership," Desai said.

His resignation will come as a jolt to BJP which is facing difficulties for the elections being held on the backdrop of the Patel quota stir.

Elections to six municipal corporations of Gujarat including that of Ahmedabad will be held on November 22 while on November 29, polling will be held for 31 district panchayats, 230 taluka panchayats and 56 municipalities.

Majority of these local bodies including all the six municipal corporations are at present held by BJP.
