In a move to check delays in providing information under Right to Information (RTI) Act, Haryana Police has urged people to address applications to the SPIO-cum-DSP (headquarters) of the district concerned.

All deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) and district Superintendent of Police (SPs) are working as State Public Information Officers (SPIOs) and First Appellate Authority respectively at the districts, said a spokesman of the state Police department.

Generally people submit their RTI applications and appeals to the Police headquarters, despite matters relating to districts and field units, he said.

After receiving the application, it is then transferred to the SPIO concerned of the respective district, resulting to unnecessary delays in providing information to the applicant, he added.
