Madras High Court today appointed a legal commissioner to look into issues raised in a PIL seeking to restrict the number of marriages conducted in the famous Lord Murugan temple in Vadapalani area of the city.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana appointed advocate A J Javed as the Legal Commissioner, asked him to submit a report and posted the matter for further hearing to January 19 next.
Petitioner V.Pandiarajan, a resident of the area, submitted that at least 50 marriages being conducted in the temple on muhurtam days which causes a huge trouble to people in the locality.

Taking note of the counter filed by Traffic Police Department, the bench said it left no doubt that there was a chaotic situation prevalent in the area.
It said the legal commissioner can visit the site at least on two or three occasions on an auspicious day of marriages so that he could get an idea of the situation prevalent.
