HC seeks govt's views on registering case against Bishop

Kerala High Court today sought the government's views on a petition seeking to register an FIR against Bishop of Thamarassery, Mar Remegiose Inchananiyal, for allegedly making a provocative speech on November 21 with regard to the Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats.

Justice Harun-Ul Rashid issued the direction in this regard on a petition by Advocate A X Varghese, seeking to register an FIR against the bishop.

The alleged offensive speech was made before the Kozhikode collectorate.

The petitioner contended that the bishop had made a provocative speech which could evoke enmity against a group of persons.

The bishop had reportedly stated in his speech that if the report was implemented, "it may result in another Jalinwala Bagh tragedy.
