The Allahabad High Court today set aside the acquisition of land in a Ghaziabad village eight years ago and rapped the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for overlooking "government orders as well as legal provisions only to provide benefit" to a private realty firm.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Sangeeta Chandra passed the order allowing the petitions of Devaki and several other residents of Duda Heda village in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh whose land was acquired by GDA in 2008.

The court, which had impleaded Ansal Properties and Infrastructure in the petition, held that the land was acquired "only to provide benefit to the private company".
