A local court today resumed hearing in the 2011 Barkali case, in which eight persons of a family were killed, five months after alleged gangster Vicky Tyagi, an accused in the case, was shot dead inside the courtroom during the trial.

Resuming the case via video-conferencing, Additional District and Sessions Judge Tej Bahadur Singh today cross examined complainant Brijbir Singh and adjourned the hearing till July 14.

Of the 20 people, including Tyagi, charge-sheeted by police initially, 17 were today present for the hearing in the jail conference room. While one accused lodged in a jail in Saharanpur was not available for the court proceedings, one turned out juvenile.

On February 16 when the trial was going on an armed juvenile had entered the courtroom masquerading as a lawyer and shot Tyagi multiple times.

On July 11, 2011, eight persons were killed, including former chairman of Cane Society Udayvir Singh, after the jeep they were riding in was hit by a truck near Barkali village in the district.

District authorities had since enhanced security in court compound and decided to start hearing without appearing in court of notorious criminals.
