There has been no respite from sweltering heat in Odisha with the mercury crossing 46 degree Celsius in Sambalpur today even as the weather office forecast such difficult conditions for next two days.
At least 13 districts experienced maximum temperature above 40 degree C while the highest temperature was recorded at Sambalpur (46.1) followed by Hirakud (45.6), Talcher, Bolangir (45.5), Titlagarh, Sonepur (45) and Sundergarh (42.5).
The state capital here experienced 40.4 degree Celsius with relative humidity ratio touching 74 per cent.
"Heat wave condition would prevail over some parts of interior area during next 48 hours, while uncomfortable sultry condition may prevail over some parts of coastal districts," a Met office warning said, adding that temperature in southern and western parts of the state would remain above 40 degree Celsius at least till May 25.
Reports from industrial and coal belts said roads wore a deserted look as people preferred to remain indoors, while commercial establishments also downed their shutters during the day.
