Incessant rainfall since last night triggered a landslide on NH 39 in Manipur, cutting off the lifeline of the state, the police said.

The landslide which occurred today at Makhan area in Senapati district damaged 80-feet of the Imphal-Dimapur NH-39, a senior police officer said.

Dozens of trucks bringing essential commodities from Nagaland and those heading towards Assam from here have been stranded due to the landslide.

In addition, torrential rains caused flash floods in several parts of Imphal town and other low-lying areas disrupting traffic. Water levels of important rivers have also increased.

The state was recently affected by floods which had inundated arable land and rendered over 30,000 people homeless.
