Veteran British actress Helen Mirren is in talks to co-star with Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston in 'Trumbo', a biopic on the life of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

Cranston will play Trumbo while Mirren will play his wife, Cleo.

The film will be directed by Jay Roach while Michael London is producing it through his Groundswell Productions banner, along with Janice Williams and John McNamara, reported Variety.

Trumbo, considered one of the most successful screenwriters in Hollywood, faced trouble after he was blacklisted for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1947 during the committee's investigation of communist influences in the film industry.

Trumbo, however, found many sympathisers within the industry and continued to work under a pseudonyms. He wrote Hollywood classics 'Roman Holiday' and 'The Brave One' despite the blacklisting.

He has since been credited for his work on 1960 films 'Exodus' and 'Spartacus'.
