Trumbo, considered one of the most successful screenwriters in Hollywood, faced trouble after he was blacklisted for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1947 during the committee's investigation of communist influences in the film industry.
Trumbo, however, found many sympathisers within the industry and continued to work under a pseudonyms. He wrote Hollywood classics 'Roman Holiday' and 'The Brave One' despite the blacklisting.
He has since been credited for his work on 1960 films 'Exodus' and 'Spartacus'.
