Hindi poet Leeladhar Jagoori to get Gangadhar National Award

Eminent Hindi poet Leeladhar Jagoori would be honoured with the prestigious Gangadhar National Award for the year 2015.

The award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a shawl and citation would be presented to Jagoori by Sambalpur University in January next year.

"The award will be presented to Leeladhar Jagoori on the occasion of the foundation day (of the university). However, the date of the function is yet to be finalised," said vice chancellor of Sambalpur University, Prof Chitta Ranjan Tripathy.

The award, named after noted Odia poet Gangadhar Meher, is given annually to poets of national repute in Indian languages.
 

The prestigious award was instituted by Sambalpur University in 1989. Jagoori will be the 25th recipient of the the award.

Jagoori, who hails from Uttarakhand and a recipient of Padmashree award, has authored several anthologies. He has been honoured with many other honours, including Sahitya Akademi Award, Raghuvir Sahay Samman and Shatadal Award.
