The national capital experienced hot and humid weather on Wednesday with the meteorological department predicting that the city may get reprieve from the sultry conditions with rains on Sunday.
The city recorded a high of 38.1 degrees Celsius, four notches more than the normal and a minimum of 28.2 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels shot up 88 per cent, adding to the discomfiture of people.
Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather, private weather forecasting agency, said "good rainfall" is likely in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab from August 31 to September 3.
Isolated spells of heavy rains may also occur at a few places on September 1 and 2, he said.
The axis of monsoon trough is lying over south Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It will move northward starting August 31.
Also, a cyclonic circulation is currently over Madhya and Pradesh and Jharkhand. The combined effect of the axis of monsoon trough and the cyclonic circulation will enhance rains over the Delhi-NCR region, Palawat said.
