Two platoons of Quick Response Police have been deployed in the sensitive areas of Kannur district where five houses were damaged in fresh incidents of violence involving workers of CPI-M and BJP-RSS, police said.
Three CPI-M workers with country-made bombs were arrested in Chackarakal police limits, district police chief PN Unnirajan said, adding that 16 persons belonging to both sides have been taken into custody in connection with the clashes.
So far, 26 cases have been registered against 300 supporters from both sides in connection with the clashes over the last three days, police said.
A CPI(M) worker and a BJP-RSS activist were killed in two separate incidents in Kasargode and Thrissur districts on August 28, triggering continuing violence involving the rival sides in some parts of the state.
