Human rights birthright, not charity

To enjoy our human rights we need to fulfil our duties first, a Calcutta High Court judge today said.

"To get our rights we need to fulfil our duties and responsibilities first of all," Justice Samapti Chatterjee said on the eve of Human Rights Day at a seminar here organised by the West Bengal Federation of United Nations Associations.

She said human rights are our birthrights and not charity.

Women rights activist Ruchira Gupta of Apne Aap Women Worldwide NGO highlighted the plight of women and the discrimination, violence they have to face at all stages of life.
