The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has postponed a meeting of a preview committee set up to select films for the international festival at Goa, amid reports that Union minister Smriti Irani may dissolve the group.

The 21-member preview committee, which reviewed over 150 films in the first phase of the screening process that began in July-end, was to meet on August 17 for a second round, a source said.

"We got a mail from the Directorate of Film Festival stating that the next round of screening will be delayed due to technical reasons," a member of the committee told PTI.

He said he was told the ministry's future decisions would be conveyed to him.

The development comes three month before the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28.

Preview committee "To be announced", IFFI said on its website.

Earlier, media reports said Irani had decided to dissolve the 21-member committee which had been cleared by her predecessor, M Venkaiah Naidu.

A ministry source said Irani had recently reviewed the various committees of IFFI and was "not satisfied" with the list of members on the preview committee.
