of a primary school at Garabaganda village in Odisha's Ganjam district was arrested by vigilance sleuths for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 2 crore against his known sources of income.

Dillip Kumar Acharya (53) was arrested yesterday after vigilance personnel found movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 3.4 crore including 1.335 kg gold ornaments and three buildings during raids on his property, police said.

"We have calculated the property to be over 203 per cent of his known sources of income," said Vigilance SP (Berhampur) Amulya Kumar Das.

The accused person had joined as an assistant teacher in the primry school in 1994. His total monthly salary during his period of service has been calculated at Rs 20 lakh, vigilance officials said.
 

Vigilance sleuths on Thursday raided his houses at Gandhi Nagar, Muktiptha Street and Bramha Nagar here and the school where he worked and opened his bank locker on Friday, they said.

During the search, the vigilance personnel came across a three-storied building at Bramha Nagar worth around Rs 1.24 crore, a similar building worth Rs 15.19 lakh at Muktipatha street and another triple-storied building at Gandhi Nagar (Rs 18.75 lakh) and three plots worth around Rs 5.03 lakh.

The household articles were worth Rs 15.74 lakh, vigilance officials said. Investment towards insurance was around Rs 63.48 lakh, bank deposits of Rs 11.71 lakh.

The cost of medicines stocked in a shop in which he was a partner was worth around Rs 93 lakh, sources said. The medicines had been procured from different companies on loans, they said.
