Independent MLA Rophul S Marak, who was supporting the Congress government in Meghalaya today announced that he was withdrawing support to the Mukul Sanga government.

He said the decision to do so was on the basis of "lack of development" in places around his constituency.

"I am answerable to the people of my constituency and the district. They are asking questions as to what we have done in our tenure of five years.

"The development work in South Garo Hills has been dismal. The main problem is road and communication and since I am contesting the upcoming election as an Independent candidate, I withdrew my support from Meghalaya United Alliance government led by Mukul Sangma," Marak said in a statement.

He alleged that the state government has turned down many of his proposals meant for the development of SGH, a region considered one of most backward in Meghalaya.
