India will particpate in the 46th edition of an international book fair here in the Egyptian capital to create a platform that brings Indian publishers and distributors together with their Egyptian counterparts.

The Cairo International Book Fair will be held between January 28 and February 12, with a slogan of 'Culture and Innovation.'

A number of Indian publishers covering varied trades like Medicines, Science, Technical, Management, and books on children are slated to participate in the fair.

Indian text books have traditionally been popular in Egypt and the Indian pavilion here is expected to create a platform that brings together Indian publishers and distributors with their Egyptian counterparts.

The Indian participation has been organised by Chemical and Allied Products Export Promotion Council (CAPEXIL).

Saudi Arabia has been chosen the guest of honour this year, according to General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO), the organiser of the fair.

Imam Muhammad Abduh (1849-1905), a prominent Egyptian religious scholar and a key figure of Islamic modernism, will be honoured at this year's book fair.

The Fair, first held in 1969, is one of the biggest book fairs worldwide, which attracts hundreds of book sellers from around the world and about two million visitors each year.
