Country's top singles player Ankita Raina crashed out of the USD 50,000 ITF women's event along with compatriots Prerna Bhambri and Rishika Sunkara as India's challenge folded at the QNET Open, here today.
Ankita lost her second round 4-6 4-6 to third seed Russian Mariana Melnikova while second seed Ukrainian Anastasiya Vasylyeva ousted wild card Prerna Bhambri 6-2 6-4.
"I played the crucial points better than before. I had a calls going against me but that's okay. I also made a few unforced errors myself," Ankita said.
Qualifier Rishika Sunkara made a brilliant start before losing 6-4 0-6 1-6 Thailand's Nicha Lertpitaksinchai .
Delhi girl was distracted as had to take a practical examination in her college. She lost 10 games on the trot and quickly left DLTA but returned later for the doubles quarterfinals, which she lost with partner Aranxta Andradi.
Austria's Barbara Haas, who stunned eighth-seeded Sofiya Kovalets in the first round, moved to the quarterfinals when her 17-year-old French rival, Harmony Tan, retired because of a knee injury.
Tan won the first set but Haas rallied to lead 3-6 6-4 2-0 when the French girl retired.
Former junior world junior no. 1 Ivana Jorovic continued her winning run by defeating Briton Tara Moore 7-5 6-2 in her second round.
There was no Indian left in the doubles draw as well as the four seeded pairs made it to the semifinals.
