The Delhi High Court has expressed displeasure over lack of cleanliness in several areas in the national capital and even at a municipal hospital and has directed the civic bodies to depute officials to inspect whether sanitary workers are carrying out their duties.
A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva said the officials concerned of the three municipal corporations of Delhi and the Public Works Department (PWD) would carry out the inspection work along with the PIL petitioner on whose plea the court had earmarked three areas in the city for cleaning-up activities.
The bench made it clear that if any worker/official of the municipal corporations or PWD was found to be "delinquent" regarding their duties, disciplinary action would be taken against them.
It also said that the inspection reports would have to be counter-signed by petitioner B B Sharan before placing it before the court.
The directions came after the latest inspection reports filed by the petitioner showed that despite court's direction to clean up Karol Bagh's western extension area (WEA) under north MCD and Patparganj in east Delhi, these areas were still dirty.
The court also noted that a hospital in south Delhi maintained and run by south MCD was also dirty.
