Intertek to set up more testing labs in India

With manufacturing in India becoming a focal point, global quality testing and certification solutions provider Intertek is eying opportunities in various segments, specially in the electrical and electronics industries.

"We are excited by the Make in India concept. We can contribute at various levels. We have so many opportunities to really support our clients, all the way through the world value chains, supply chains to the end-customer," Intertek Group Plc Executive Vice President Manfred Klepacz told PTI.

The firm is optimistic about adding new clients in India and plans to set up more testing and certification laboratories in the country.
 

"We have take this offer of (Make in India) as catalyst to redefine our strategy and accelerate our growth path... We are building capabilities for electrical and electronics area. We are building two more labs here," he said.

At present Intertek has 20 laboratories in different parts of India, providing employment to over 1,800 people.

According to Intertek Regional MD South Asia Rajesh Saigal for the Intertek group, India is one of the top ranking countries.

"On the textiles segment, India is one of top five for the group. We started with textiles and that is today our backbone. We are looking for other sectors. Last year we have made an acquisition in the food sector, the area where we have to focus on," Saigal said.

Intertek has a global network of 1,000 labs and offices spread in 100 countries employing around 36,000 people.

It is engaged in testing, inspection, certification, auditing, outsourcing, advisory, training and quality assurance.
