Around 700 illegal structures were demolished by the civic body on Pokhran Road here in a day-long drive amid tight security arrangements.
"The drive was part of the work to widen the present road on Pokhran Road number 1 from 20 ft to 40 ft and the work will also continue tomorrow," the Thane Municipal Corporation stated in a release.
The demolition squad worked throughout the day with the help of JCBs and trucks to raze and remove the debris at the site amid presence of a posse of police personnel.
TMC Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal supervised the drive.
The road between Cadbury Junction to Shivai Nagar, facing frequent traffic snarls, is being widened to ease the traffic.
