With 1,597 volunteers, a women's college in Jamshedpur has registered maximum number of students for the HRD ministry's awareness campaign on digital transactions.
According to HRD ministry officials, around 1 lakh students have already registered as volunteers, of which the highest number is from Jamshedpur Women's College.
Another institute which has provided a good number of volunteers is National College, Trichy, while there have also been many volunteers from Central University of Haryana, Lovely Professional University in Punjab, Central University of South Bihar and Central University of Punjab.
Officials said while the number of volunteers from institutes like JNU, Delhi University, IITs and IIMs is less than many colleges, they expect the participation of students from these colleges to increase in the coming days.
In the wake of demonetisation, the HRD ministry had launched the month-long Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan (VISAKA), which began on December 12, to spread awareness about cashless transactions among university students and teachers across the country.
