Lambasting arch rival DMK, which has been playing "power cuts" a major poll plank in the Lok Sabha polls against AIADMK, its supremo Jayalalithaa today vowed to unravel the "conspiracy" behind the abrupt energy shortage.

In a hard hitting speech at an election rally here, she promised people that power crisis was expected to ease soon after resumption of production by 600 MW capacity at Mettur.

Jayalalalithaa reiterated that "people are now suspecting that there could be a conspiracy by DMK and Congress for the abrupt power failures witnessed in parts of the state in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections, a phenomena experienced during Yercaud assembly bypoll".

Without elaborating on the nature of conspiracy she suspected, Jayalalithaa said a probe ordered by her government would bring out the truth.

Lashing out at DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin, who have been going hammer and tongs on her government blaming it for the power shortage, Jayalalithaa retorted "the DMK government did nothing to augment electricity generation when it was in power".

DMK government preferred purchasing of power on short term basis for personal gains rather than improving generation, she alleged and claimed that after her government returned to office in 2011 it has added 2500 MW of energy.

Jayalalithaa said more new projects were in the pipeline and on their completion the state would not face any power crisis.
