Jeera futures rise 0.72 pc on uptick in demand

Jeera prices traded higher by 0.72 per cent to Rs 19,010 per quintal in futures trade today as participants raised bets amid pick-up in demand at domestic spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in December rose Rs 135, or 0.72 per cent, to Rs 19,010 per quintal with an open interest of 3,816 lots.
On similar lines, the spice for delivery in November traded higher by Rs 85, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 18,920 per quintal in 8,514 lots.
Analysts said widening of positions by traders due to pick-up in demand in the physical market against restricted supplies from producing belts, mainly pushed up jeera prices at futures trade.
