Jewellery theft racket busted in Odisha

With the arrest of a 25-year-old man, police today claimed to have unearthed an inter-district gold jewellery theft racket in Odisha's Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur districts.

The accused Gopia Das was taken into custody from Shyamsundar village and about 40 gram of stolen gold jewelleries was recovered from his possession, said Inspector Kujang police station, Chnimoy Rout.

The accused who along with a dozen of his other accomplices was operating the theft racket in Paradip, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Paradip, Jajpur and some areas of Cuttack district.

At least three jewellery shops owners who had purchased the stolen articles have evaded arrest, police added.
