Emphasising on the importance of making Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) as nerve centres for transfer of agricultural technologies to farmers, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said, the move will enhance agri-productivity.
There is an urgent need for establishing these Kendras within a fixed timeline for benefit of the growers, Vohra said.
The Governor and the Chief Minister were addressing the 9th meeting of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology university council, at Raj Bhavan here.
To secure sustained growth of agriculture and its allied sectors, all of which are vital contributors to JK's economy, it is essential to ensure effective coordination among the two Farm Universities of the state and the government's various extension agencies to achieve the desired objective, the Governor observed.
Vohra called for pilot projects being launched on a time-bound basis to establish area and crop specific demonstration plots of vegetables, cereals, pulses and oilseeds.
The Governor, while chairing the meeting, observed that all available resources and expertise should be optimally utilised for producing quality seeds of various crops and ensuring their timely supply to farmers.
Possibilities should also be explored for encouraging promotion of "seed villages" to supplement the production of quality seeds, he added.
