Jobless man sets himself afire after wife gets transfer, dies

Upset over the alleged delay in regularising the service of his wife, working in a school, an unemployed man set himself ablaze at the Collectorate here and died of burn injuries, police said today.

The woman, Leo Jesintha, alleged that the school management delayed regularisation of her service and was casteist and that she was transferred to Kodaikanal because she pressed for it, police said.

Disappointed, her husband Jesuraja, a diploma holder in teacher-training, set himself ablaze yesterday.

People at the Collectorate rushed him to a local hospital, but he died without responding to treatment, police said

Jesintha was an employee in the administration department of a school, they said.
