Captain Usman scored a brace for Kerala as the home team blanked Pondicherry 3-0 on the inaugural day of the South Zone qualifying rounds of Santosh trophy football tournament at the corporationstadium here today.
Usman scored in the 57th and 67th minutes while Bobby Justin scored the first goal in the 3rd minute of play.
Earlier, in the first match of group 'A', Andhra Pradesh defeated Karnataka 2-1.
Karnataka captain Vignesh Gunasekaran drew the first blood by scoring in the 25th minute.
Andhra Pradesh equalised through its captain T Chandrasekaran (45th) who again netted the winning goal in the 72nd minute.
In tomorrow's group 'B' matches, Services will face Telangana while Tamil Nadu takes on Lakshadweep.
