Forest department today brought three kumkis (tamed elephants) from Mudumalai vamp to drive away an elephant, which was destroying crops and agriculture produces in and around Thorapalli in the district.
The farmers and villagers have lodged complaint with the department that crops like cardamom, ginger and vegetables cultivated in their land were destroyed by a single elephant every night, incurring heavy losses.
Based on this, department brought three kumkis--Vijay, Sujay and Inder- from the camp to drive away the elephant, which moves around during the night hours, department soruces said.

If necessary, one more Kumkiz will be brought they said.
The people in the area, particularly in Gudalur Taluk, were agitated over the man-human conflict, which takes toll of human lives and also their crops.
