Anirban Lahiri put all that he had learnt at the Masters to good use by getting to the 18th tee in one-under for the round, before running into a back-breaking triple bogey in the first round of the RBC Heritage tournament, here today.

Lahiri carded two-over 73 and was lying 78th. Lahiri started in a flashy manner with birdies on first, second and fourth and suddenly at three-under through four holes, he was attracting a lot of attention.

Bogeys on seventh, 10th and 12th put him back to even par before a birdie on 15th had him back in red colours at under par. Then came the triple bogey, where he took a penalty and ended with a seven.

The cut looks likely at one-over and Lahiri would like to see himself build on the Masters experience and do well. Meanwhile, the spotlight was firmly on Masters champion Jordan Spieth, who became the first player since 2007 to tee up at Heritage soon after winning at Augusta.

Spieth, clearly tired after all the media rounds in New York, shot three-over 74 and was in danger of missing the cut.

That's in huge variance to his two wins and two runner-up finishes in last four starts. Graeme McDowell and Matt Every started with five-under 66 each and were tied for the lead. Korean Bae Sangmoon carded 67 to be third.

Defending champion Matt Kuchar led a group of five at 68 with Ian Poulter and Louis Oosthuizen shooting 69.
