Leopard dies in trap laid by poachers

A one-year-old leopard died after getting caught in a trap laid for wild animals near Melghat Tiger Reserve in Akola district of Maharashtra Thursday, a forest official said.

Suspected poachers had laid the trap for wild boars and other smaller animals near Khandala village, the official said.

The leopard was trapped in it and died of injuries suffered while trying to escape, he added.
