Residents of HAL township here today staged a protest and blocked roads alleging that a cow was slaughtered at a ground in the locality, police said.

Blood was spotted at the ground near HAL township this morning, but we did not find any carcass there, Circle officer Cantonment police station Pavitra Mohan Tripathi said.

Alleging that a cow was slaughtered in the area, locals blocked the Ramdevi Road, he said, adding the blockade was lifted after police assured them of a detailed investigation into the incident.

A probe is underway to see whether a cow was indeed slaughtered or this was an conspiracy by radical elements to flare up communal tension in the city, police said.

On January 6, a cow's mutilated remains were found near HAL township here, following which some Hindu outfits had held a protest.

A case has been registered in this connection against unidentified persons, Tripathi said.
