London stocks drop 0.8% at open

London stocks sank more than 0.8 per cent in opening deals today, despite attempts by finance minister George Osborne to calm jitters after last week's shock Brexit vote.

The British capital's benchmark FTSE 100 index of top blue-chip companies fell 0.84 per cent to 6,086.66 points at the open.
