Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today said though India may boast of being one of the first countries to initiate collaboration between government and NGOs towards development, there was a long way to go to fully utilise this as a spring board to strengthen the corporate social and environment responsibility.

"Rapid industrial growth should usher in societal and community development leading to development in education, environment and healthcare. The Corporate houses, industrialists and entrepreneurs should take it as their onerous responsibility to bring about economic growth and foster development of the society", Rosaiah said.

He was speaking after inaugurating CSR Conference and exhibition on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, organised by CII, here.

Inviting people to make India great in all spheres, he said, "this rests not only with the Government but also with the people from all walks of life".

Stating that CSR activities by companies show how companies can contribute to positive impact on society, he said, "Companies should take responsibility for the impact of their activities on customers, suppliers, employees, communities and other stake-holders".
