The Delhi High Court today asked the Centre to inquire into an allegation levelled by an NGO that passports were being issued on non-residential addresses.

A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath said the issue raised by NGO Paardarshita in a PIL "needs consideration" so "you (Centre) make an enquiry".

The NGO's representative, H D Nijhawan, told the court that while the official stand of the government is that passports would be issued on only the residential addresses but they were being issued on non-residential addresses, including commercial addresses.

"He has pointed out certain instances. Consider that," the court said to the Centre and disposed of the NGO's plea.
