The Madras High Court has restrained four starred hotels here from playing music, including hit Bollywood songs, for allegedly failing to obtain necessary licence from Novex Communications despite several reminders.

The interim injunction, valid till January 20, was issued against Westin, Hyatt Regency, Green Park and Crowne Plaza on a petition by Novex, the assignee to Zee Music and authorised agent of Yash Raj Music, who together hold the rights for most of the hit songs.

The hotels are barred from playing Bollywood songs, albums and regional songs, licences for which are with Novex Communications.

Novex submitted that these hotels failed to obtain licence for playing the songs even after a number of reminders.

In September this year, Novex had secured an order from the Delhi High Court restraining several hotels-cum-bar lounges from playing Bollywood songs without first getting a licence from the company.
