Maha: Assistant Public Prosecutor held on graft charge

An Assistant Public Prosecutor was arrested for allegedly taking bribe in lieu of having got her client acquitted in a case by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials in Niphad taluka of the district, police said.

The accused, identified as Jyoti Tukaram Nirgude, who had appeared for her client in a court case, had demanded Rs 5,000 from him after the latter was acquitted, an ACB press release said.

The bribe amount was settled at Rs 1,500, following which her client approached the ACB, it said.

ACB sleuths laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in Niphad court premises yesterday, it said.
 

A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is on, the release said.
